Colchester Garrison

The Colchester Garrison project is a 35 year concession to provide a new facility for the Secretary of State for Defence in Colchester, UK. The project is located on the original garrison site and partly on an adjacent brownfield site owned by the Ministry of Defence. The first phase of construction was completed by Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd, a privately-owned UK contractor, in July 2006 and involved bringing into commission almost 50 buildings with associated work and leisure facilities, as well as the disposal of approximately 84 hectares for residential development.

Capital expenditure on the project was approximately GBP550m and financial close was achieved in February 2004. The project (Phase 1) has been operational since then. Colchester Garrison provides accommodation for 3,000 military and 750 civilian personnel.
